Debunking Search Engine Myths
by Brandon Rochelle, technical director, Designsensory
category: search engine optimization

A new black art as emerged from the ashes of the dot-com boom.

Search engine ranking is the ultimate cache for a company’s Internet presence, and there are hundreds of search engine marketers out there waiting to capitalize on your company’s desire to achieve a higher placement. But who do you trust? How do you reach higher rankings ethically so as to achieve long-term, sustainable results? Before turning the reigns over to your favorite computer geek, let us first analyze some of the search engine myths which may lead your company’s site down the path of Internet isolation.

My favorite myth: “If I build it they will come.”

By simply having a website your company is halfway to achieving tangible results from the Internet; however, far too many companies do not follow up on their Internet presence with effective marketing and placement. The most important thing you can do with your site is to send people there! Any time you do a radio ad, a billboard, a television spot, or a mail-out put your website address on it. Your company is already spending the advertising dollars, so why not give your customers the added benefit of accessing your service or product offerings online.

Also, invest time into providing significant information. The Internet is not simply just an online brochure. It is an interactive medium where your clients can explore many facets of your company with relative ease. The text and graphics on your site should follow the same principle. The information presented should be rich with keywords you associate with your business. Not only are you providing accessible text to your online reader, you are also enabling search engines to track and properly index your website to increase general ranking. Relatively simple changes to your website can facilitate an overall search engine optimization campaign.

Designsensory offers a full range of search engine optimization services focused on long-term, sustainable results. We offer content management, online placement, and electronic advertising services to ensure your site gets the attention it deserves.
